Northcote City are excited to announce the signing of goalkeeper Anthony Bouzanis.
The 20-year-old arrives having spent four years at Sydney FC where he gained his first professional contract, and has now made the switch to City in search of senior game time in NPL Victoria.
“Sydney was a good experience, I learned a lot of things in the professional environment which helped me grow as a player,” Bouzanis said.
“The biggest reason behind coming to Northcote was to get games. I’m a young keeper at only 20 and I’m looking to play games with older boys. I think it will be the best thing for me. Yes, it’s not the A-League but I don’t think that this league is far off.”
The younger brother of Dean who is currently at Melbourne City, Bouzanis is relishing healthy competition at Northcote and emphasised the importance of the goalkeeper fraternity.
“The goalkeepers union is big. Keepers are supposed to stick together. We’re one of a kind. We aren’t like the other players in the way that we have our own art to focus on.”
“At the end of the day everyone wants to play but the goalkeepers have to support each other. I’ve met Phil (Petrovski), he is a great guy, good keeper and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Bouzanis has good impressions of the Club so far and is hoping to help secure survival over the second half of the season.
“I like it a lot. The set-out is pretty professional with the changing rooms and stadium at a good standard. The lads- unbelievable. The staff as well, everything is good and I’m happy to be here.”
“I’ve come here to play and perform. We need to win games. At this stage of the season from where we are, it’s crucial that we pick up points and I’m here to help do that.”
Bouzanis is in contention to make his debut when City take on South Melbourne at Lakeside Stadium on Sunday.
