Northcote City produced a pulsating result against Port Melbourne on Tuesday night to progress to Round 7 of FFA Cup qualifying with a thrilling penalty shootout win at JL Murphy Reserve.
Two goals from in form defender Matthew Whatley had Northcote 2-0 up and seemingly in control of the game.
However second half strikes from Andreas Govas and Francesco Stella for the NPL outfit sent the match into extra time.
With nothing to separate the sides after the added 30 minutes, the tie went to penalties.
Griffin McMaster proved the hero, making two huge saves including the winning stop off Govas to cue jubilant celebrations from players, officials and supporters alike.
Northcote are now one of eight Victorian teams through to Round 7, the draw scheduled for 12pm Friday and broadcast live on the FFV Facebook page.
Success in the next tie would see Zeljko Kuzman’s men through to the national Round of 32, with A-League sides entering the competition.
