McMaster makes the switch to City

Harry Manaras of Barry Plant Preston, our Matchday sponsor, welcomes in Griffin

Northcote City are delighted to announce the signing of Griffin McMaster from FC Bulleen Lions.

The former A-League goalkeeper excelled last season at the Veneto Club and before that at Heidelberg United.

“Northcote inquired about me which was nice and worked hard to make things happen,” McMaster said.

“There was just a feeling inside me saying go for it. It was a sixth sense, a gut feeling.”

“They are very keen on their end and I’m very hungry on my end so both ends were aligned. It’s great but all the hard work starts on day one.”

The 33-year-old stopper is relishing a new challenge as City look to impress in NPL2 and he knows a good attitude will be essential to that.

“There’s obviously going to be a lot of expectation on me to perform and it’s very important that I fulfil that expectation.”

“I can’t think about any external things other than working hard in training and getting myself 100 per cent fit mentally and physically.”

The former Brisbane Roar and Wellington Phoenix man brings a wealth of experience and believes he will add leadership and organisation in the Northcote defence.

“The backbone is the most important thing. My department is to make sure that’s all in order and it’s very important that the message gets across,” McMaster said.

“Last year I played for a club that were on the back foot a lot. We copped fourth best defence in the league which was satisfying considering we finished fourth bottom.”

“The challenge for the upcoming season is to keep things very tight at the back. The expectation is there but the realisation has to be there as well.”

McMaster becomes Head Coach Zeljko Kuzman’s first new arrival ahead of the 2017 season. Stay tuned to in the coming days for more transfer news.
