2016 PS4 NPL Victoria Round 20- Avondale FC v Northcote City
Saturday July 9th, 3:00pm at Knights Stadium
11h v 13th
Northcote meet Avondale for the second time this season with Northcote looking to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Heidelberg United while Avondale will be looking to provide a much-improved performance from their 6-0 thrashing against Oakleigh Cannons last week.
Avondale have had a disappointing season thus far and are currently in a rut with five consecutive losses. Coming from a narrow 2-1 loss to Heidelberg United, the visitors were on the back foot right from the very beginning and never looked in the match in their 6-0 loss to Oakleigh, with the hosts scoring four goals in the second half. They will see Northcote at home as a big opportunity to turn things around.
One to watch: Jonatan Germano
Jonatan Germano has been Avondale’s leading goal scorer this season. The former Melbourne Heart man has scored three goals in his past four matches.
Northcote City (LWLDL)
Coming from a hard earned 1-1 draw with Green Gully, Northcote were unable to get the three points they were after against Heidelberg. Kenny Athiu struck in the 32nd minute, with former Northcote player Jordan Wilkes scoring the hosts second from a set piece in the 56th minute. City impressed in patches and created opportunities but will need a more efficient display to beat Avondale and climb out of the drop zone.
One to Watch: Borbor Sam
The winger has caught the eye in recent weeks with his blistering pace and strength to match making him one of Northcote’s biggest threats in attack. Sam has shown his ability to get in behind the opposition’s defence and will be hoping this translates into more goals for himself and his teammates.
Head to Head:
The last time these two teams met was in Round 7 this year where Avondale defeated Northcote 1-0 with a late winner while the last meeting in 2015 saw Northcote triumph 3-1.
