Northcote City is back at John Cain this Saturday for Round 5 of the NPL 2, a crossover round which will see Hercules take on NPL 2 East outfit Box Hill United.

Northcote’s perfect record looked to be in tatters last week at John Cain, as they trailed 1-0 going into stoppage time against Brunswick City.

But in the first minute of extra time, substitutes Anthony Ramzy and James Papadimitriou combined for the equaliser, as a pinpoint cross from Ramzy found the head of Papa who finished firmly.

City weren’t done there and no more than 30 seconds after the restart Papa was involved again, pouncing on a loose ball before laying it wide to Alec Goodwin, whose angled drive from just inside the box found the bottom corner to cue wild all-in celebrations, including the coaching staff. The 2-1 win will go down as one of the club’s classic matches.

Four wins from four matches for Northcote, and four goals for young striker Goodwin who made The Corner Flag’s Team of the Month.

They face a Box Hill team also undefeated in 2017, but still without a win after opening the season with three 0-0 draws. Last week saw Greg Kassidas’ side on the wrong end of the late drama, as their 1-0 lead against Dandenong Thunder was cancelled out by a 94th minute equaliser to make it four draws from four for Pythagoras.

It is sure to be an enthralling contest at John Cain!
