Northcote City v Brunswick City
Saturday February 25
John Cain Memorial Park
5pm kick off, U20s from 2:45pm
Northcote have started the season as hoped with a perfect nine points from three matches played so far, scoring ten goals and conceding just one in the process.
Last week’s 4-1 defeat of Ballarat City saw John Maclean score upon his full debut while Tremayne Sadler also opened his account with striker Alec Goodwin adding a brace.
Despite the good beginning, Head Coach Zeljko Kuzman acknowledges that all the hard work is still ahead for his team.
“The reality is that we are at the very start of the journey,” he told Stefan Tsamis of Goal Weekly.
“The playing group is still in its infancy. With so many new players making up the squad it will take time to develop a deeper level of understanding of the brand of football that we want to encourage.”
Brunswick have also enjoyed a solid opening three games, undefeated and sitting third on the table. That would have been outright second but for the concession of a late equaliser away to Whittlesea Ranges last time out.
“Brunswick like every team in our competition will provide us with a new challenge,” Kuzman said.
“We will approach this game like any other. We don’t underestimate anyone and fully understand that we will need to produce a really good performance to achieve the desired outcome.”
Meanwhile Brunswick coach George Karkaletsis is relishing the opportunity to match it with Northcote on Saturday.
“I am pretty confident actually,” he told Tim Michell of the Moreland Leader.
“The squad is confident going into this week. I think the boys generally get up for the bigger games.”
