Northcote City FC’s Disability Sport and Recreation side has played out two more successful friendlies with All Abilities (ID) team Northern Falcons.
Game 1 of the annual meeting was played on home turf at John Cain Memorial Park and proved to be a thriller.
Down 4-0 at half time, the Northcote boys rallied hard in the second half to win 7-6 on the back of some key changes by coach Oscar Magrina.
The late winner cued ecstatic celebrations, which resulted in goalscorer Michael Prapas removing his shirt and swinging it over his head, only to receive a booking from his father and Team Manager George to the shared laughter of all spectators.
Oran Jones scored a double while Prapas, Viv Wright, Lucas Tripicchio, Hayden Bognar and Adam ToreyToth each got on the scoresheet.
Game 2 away to the Falcons saw City’s young an undermanned side dealt their first loss in three years, defeated 5-1.
As always, the match was played in the spirit of fun and good gamesmanship. Due to the uneven numbers, some of the opposition volunteered to play for Northcote. Even the goalkeepers swapped sides during the game.
Will Clemens scored for the boys in blue while Viv Wright put in a Man of the Match performance.
The DSR team would like to thank everyone at Northcote City for allowing us to use the main ground for our home fixture, our young Vic Paralympic team brothers for their leadership and guidance, and Anthony Risoli and his Northern Falcons team.
