Northcote City are pleased to announce the signings of Aaron Turner and George Stavridis as Zeljko Kuzman’s squad going into the 2017 season nears completion.
Turner, 25, is a central midfielder well known to the NPL Victoria. Originally from Adelaide, Turner moved to Hume City at the start of 2014 before most recently impressing at Pascoe Vale.
After a season and a half at CB Smith Reserve, Turner arrives at Northcote relishing the challenge ahead.
“The ambition was what impressed me,” he said.
“The goal is to be successful but they are going about it in a different way to a lot of other clubs. They are trying to run things professionally and move in the right direction. There is a real positive vibe around the club.”
“Zeljko was another reason that I moved here. I get along really well with him and I felt this was the right place for me.”
Turner is looking to offer a variety of assets to the heart of City’s midfield including the advantage of experience.
“I’m a technical player. My vision is good and I like to keep the ball but also work very hard.”
“Now that I’m 25 I consider myself a bit more experienced and my understanding and knowledge of the game has improved.”
Defender Stavridis arrives from Kingston City, having joined the club in 2012 and been an integral part of its rise from State League 3 to the top flight.
“I thought it was a good time to move on,” the 30-year-old said.
“After getting to the highest league possible with Kingston I’m looking to do similar things with another club. Northcote is a club that I have respected and liked over the years and they look like they are on the right path. The club wants to be at the top level and with my experience I think I can help with that.”
Able to operate at right back, right wing and in the centre of defence, the versatile and seasoned defender is happy in his new surroundings and looking forward to what’s in store for this season and beyond.
“I’m excited. It’s a really good group of boys and the staff are very professional. We’ve got everything from a Sports Scientist helping us with prehab and rehab to a media department so the set-up is looking good.”
“I’ve only had a limited amount of sessions with Zeljko but I can already see he’s a great coach as well as Steve (Bebic) and Theo (Mihailidis). I’m excited to see what they can teach us and what we can learn from each other.”
