No NPL Victoria action this week with the return of Australia’s oldest cup competition, the Dockerty Cup. The Dockerty Cup now comes with the added incentive of potential qualification to Australia’s newest cup competition, the FFA Cup.
The return to the State cup’s traditional name was greeted with great nostalgia by Victoria’s clubs, and Northcote City looks forward to challenging for a trophy that we last won in 2011, when the tournament was known as the Mirabella Cup (pictured above). Qualification for the semi-finals will earn a place in the FFA Cup, the nationwide knockout tournament that the whole country has been waiting for, which will pit A-League teams against the best of the state and territory leagues.
In what will be one of the games of Round 4 in the Dockerty Cup, Northcote City take on Port Melbourne Sharks at SS Anderson Reserve on Saturday in an all-NPL fixture between two respected rivals.
Port Melbourne v Northcote City
Saturday 22 March
SS Anderson Reserve
