Northcote City are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Alex Dao from Box Hill United.
The 23-year-old spent the 2015 season at Melbourne Knights, helping the club to a fourth place finish before moving to the NPL2 East with Box Hill at the beginning of the current campaign.
“We had a good start to the season but up until this point it hasn’t worked out. I still hold Box Hill in high regard as a club but I thought Northcote was a good opportunity for me to leave and come back to the NPL,” Dao said.
“I always wanted to get back into it (NPL). This year was just sort of taking a step back and getting to a club that was closer to me with my schooling commitments in mind. I want to give everything.”
A versatile left-footer, the former Melbourne Heart Youth player can operate at wing or full-back, but is most at home pulling the strings in central midfield. Dao is keen to start contributing as City begin a ten-match race to get out of the drop zone, having climbed off the foot of the table with a massive 5-0 win over the Knights on the weekend.
“I’ve only had one session but I look forward to getting to know all the boys over the coming weeks. It’s a totally new team. You can see that eagerness to do well and a nothing to lose attitude going into the back end of season. Hopefully we can get out of the relegation zone.”
“All the players including myself from here out need to show what we can do and pick up as many points as possible.”
Dao could make his debut when Northcote visit Pascoe Vale at CB Smith Reserve on Friday night.
