Northcote City are pleased to announce the signings of Anthony Rizk and Jonathan Voulgaris on multi-year contracts.
Rizk, 20, rejoins his junior club after a stint with Melbourne City in the Foxtel National Youth League and the 2015 NPL1 season.
Able to operate at left midfield or left full back, the talented Rizk had no hesitation in linking up with the club again after the close ties he had developed.
“The decision to come back was through loyalty with Alex (Gymnopoulos),” he said.
“The experience I’ve had here, the silverware I’ve won here, it made sense to come back.”
“My aim and the team’s will be to achieve the highest we can, go as far as we can and see where it takes us.”
23-year-old Voulgaris, who can operate anywhere across the front three, joins after a spell with both Heidelberg United and Clifton Hill in 2015.
Voulgaris was also a Northcote junior and hailed the impact of Gymnopoulos in making his choice.
“I wanted to get back into the NPL. I had a chat with some of the committee members at Northcote and found out the club was changing direction and heading in the right direction,” he said.
“I grew up at Northcote with Alex as the Reserve Coach and being close with him, he taught me a lot and just mentored me. With him being the Senior Coach now it was almost a no-brainer to come back and try to help him out.”
Voulgaris has aims on a personal and team level for the upcoming 2016 season which he hopes will interlink.
“As a winger and striker your role is to assist and score goals so I want to try beat my personal best for goals and set up as many as I can,” he said.
“On a team level I do think this year’s going to be extremely hard with a lot of teams signing quality players but there’s no reason why we can’t finish in the top five or six.”
Rizk and Voulgaris rejoin as pre-season for the senior team gets underway.
